Session Theme Descriptions Sessions at the 17th National Conference on Learning Disabilities are being presented under the following themes: Effective Instruction This theme includes sessions centered around multisensory language instruction, math, engaging students in culturally appropriate contexts, behaviour and early childhood education settings. Advocacy This theme includes sessions centered around inspirational stories of personal success with LD/ADHD, human rights, self advocacy, effective parent advocacy and the personal experiences of parents and consumers. Keynote for this theme is Ben Polis. Speakers in this theme include:
Research and Technology This theme includes sessions centered on the latest research in the field of LD around mental health, early learning and development, assessment and assistive technology. Keynote for this theme is Fraser Mustard. Speakers in this theme include:
Community Partnerships This theme includes sessions centered around the need for an interdisciplinary and coordinated approach to prevent and mitigating the personal and social costs of LD. Session topics include early literacy, culturally appropriate approaches to education from a First Nation perspective, community literacy partnerships, health and justice. Keynote for this theme is Dr. Martin Brokenleg. Speakers in this theme include:
